South Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust Partners with WCI to Provide Robust Integration Solutions

South Manchester Hospitals NHS Trust finds that a partnership with WCI provides robust integration solutions and a development foundation for the future

The Challenges
South Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (SMUHT) needed a partner to not only integrate their systems to meet aggressive 'go live' dates for the Connecting for Health (CfH) programme, but to ensure that a platform was in place for future development plans and locally maintainable support.  High on the requirements list was to ensure the solution supported the Trust's clinical needs as well as the technical requirements whilst ensuring that staff shadowed and understood all stages of the project to become self supportive and be in a position for future development plans.

The Solution
'Go live' dates were on the horizon to meet CfH programme targets and the project needed to address integration of the new Local Service Provider (LSP) application with existing departmental systems, whilst maintaining a clinically safe environment.

The solution introduced SeeBeyond ICAN Suite 5 including and eGate integration engine with interfaces to the new LSP chosen Lorenzo PAS application and the Trust's existing systems, including radiology, Pathology and Audiology.  As a partnership, WCI will assist the Trust in developing interfaces that meet local needs, conform to LSP specifications and provide the building blocks for future development plans.

WCI's approach combines scalable, robust and safe technology solutions with a strong focus on process improvement.  This reduces administration and management overheads whilst improving the quality of services delivered to patients.

The Benefits
Richard Moulds, Programme Manager - Connecting for Health at SMUHT, said, "We selected WCI because of their expertise in health application integration, detailed knowledge of the National Programme, track record of successful implementations and value for money."

WCI offered a low risk, high quality and value for money solution by combining the unique strengths of 18 years working with the NHS, integration skills gained through the first successful EPR acute sector implementation at UCLH, excellence in technology and excellence in streamlining processes.  This has enabled healthcare organisations, such as UCLH to meet government targets, streamline processes and satisfy local clinical requirements and priorities.
